Furnished to a high standard, Elisabeth Cottage is located in the old fishing port of Banff on Scotland's North East coast. Just a few minutes walk from the harbour, the accommodation makes a wonderful choice for a year round break for couples or families.

Banff enjoys spectacular sea views, magnificent sunsets, the cleanest of air and the friendliest of people. A feature of the town is its Georgian architecture. Duff House, in the Deveron valley, is an impressive Georgian mansion and is open to visitors as a country house gallery with fine paintings and artefacts drawn from the National Galleries of Scotland.

A former county town and a Royal Burgh, having received its charter from Robert the Bruce in 1324, Banff's history stretches back to the 12th century when it was one of the important Hanseatic trading towns. It has been designated an Outstanding Conservation Area.

Its challenging golf course, Duff House Royal, was designed by Alastair Mackenzie, before he emigrated to America to design the slightly more famous Augusta National - home to the Masters.

Banff is within easy reach of the Coastal Trail with its footpath, wildlife-watching opportunities and other attractions. It is also well placed for castle trails and malt whisky distilleries.

Banff harbour is now used as a recreational harbour, leaving its neighbour Macduff as the main port along this stretch of the Moray Firth. Macduff offers Royal Tarlair, another fine golf course and the award winning Marine Aquarium, home to the unique open-air centre tank, Moray Firth habitat display and diving show. Regular farmers' markets are also held in the town.

Nearby Pennan, a beautiful old smugglers village at the foot of mighty cliffs, was the location for the movie 'Local Hero' and its famous phone box is a listed historical monument. Aberdour Bay has sandy beaches, extensive sea-cave formations and a 10th century church associated with St. Columba. A rugged and dramatic coastline, with its cliffs, crags, hidden coves and bays, offers plenty of sightseeing and walking opportunities for bird watchers and botanists.

Further west, the scenery gives way to sandy beaches, forest walks, cycle routes, pony treking and dolphin watching.

Other major attractions in the area include the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses (Fraserburgh) and Fordyce Joiners Workshop. The Portsoy Boat Festival is also an established annual event in the area as is the Mobil North Sea Yacht Race between Stavanger and Macduff which starts/finishes here on alternate years.
